The SQE in brief
The Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) is the centralised assessment of the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). It has two stages:
- SQE1 tests functioning legal knowledge in two parts, FLK1 and FLK2, each made up of single-best-answer multiple-choice questions.
- SQE2 tests practical legal skills in written and oral tasks, such as client interviewing, advocacy, legal research and drafting.
You pay the assessment fees to the SRA, separately from any course. For bookings from October 2026 the SRA lists £2,006 for SQE1 and £3,086 for SQE2 (previously £1,934 and £2,974). Kaplan delivers the exam on the SRA’s behalf, which makes Kaplan the assessment organisation rather than an SQE prep provider. The SRA publishes free sample questions itself.
How to judge SQE preparation
Ask these questions of any option, including us:
- Does it cover SQE1, SQE2 or both?
- Do you practise many single-best-answer questions, mixed across subjects as in FLK1 and FLK2?
- Do questions come back at growing intervals, so your knowledge lasts until exam day?
- Are there full mock exams under time pressure?
- Do you get an explanation for every answer, not just a score?
- How much support do you need: study plan, tutor, live teaching?
- What does the full scope cost, and what is not included?
Self-testing instead of rereading (Roediger and Karpicke 2006), spaced review (Cepeda and colleagues 2006) and mixed practice (Rohrer and Taylor 2007) are among the best-supported study methods. They suit a broad knowledge test like SQE1 particularly well.

What Lexxington offers for SQE1
The United Kingdom course is in preparation. The figures show the current state of the content and are counted from the course files when the page is built.
- 14 subjects with 25 lessons
- 9 practice questions with explanations
- 6 flashcards with a review schedule
Practice exams run as timed multiple choice under exam conditions. The daily session mixes due, weak and new questions from every subject, just as FLK1 and FLK2 mix subjects.
Methods from research
Flashcards with a review schedule, a case trainer, Quick 10 for short breaks, speed round, fill-in-the-blank and a confidence check before each answer. The error log shows why you got something wrong. The science page lists the studies.
Lexxi, the AI tutor
Lexxi sees what is on your screen and explains rules, cases and answers. Lexxi is included in the subscription and is not legal advice.

What Lexxington is and is not
Lexxington covers SQE1. It has no SQE2 content, and the oral parts of SQE2 cannot be practised in an app. The course providers above also offer things Lexxington does not: lectures, printed textbooks, personal tutors and coaches.
Lexxington is built for short, active practice every day. It works on its own for self-study or alongside a course, for a monthly price.
Combine rather than replace
Many candidates take a course and practise with a question app on the side. Try Lexxington for seven days and then decide. For qualification, only the SRA’s rules apply.
A note on fairness: BARBRI, QLTS School, The University of Law and Kaplan are trademarks of their owners. Lexxington is not affiliated with these providers or with the SRA. For other providers’ services and prices, only their own information applies.

Frequently asked questions
Is Lexxington an alternative to an SQE course?
Lexxington is a study app for SQE1 with questions, flashcards, cases and mock exams. It has no lectures, no tutors and nothing for SQE2. Many candidates use an app alongside a course.
Does Lexxington cover SQE2?
No. The United Kingdom course prepares for SQE1.
How much does Lexxington cost for the SQE?
€9.99 a month, the first 7 days free. All 14 subjects and Lexxi are included. The SRA’s assessment fees come on top.
Does Kaplan offer SQE prep courses?
Kaplan delivers the SQE on behalf of the SRA, so it is not an SQE course provider. The SRA publishes sample questions for free.
Are the questions real SQE questions?
No. All questions and cases are written for Lexxington and follow the SQE1 syllabus.
How current is this information?
We checked it on the providers’ and the SRA’s websites on 4 November 2026. The provider’s current information always applies.
